The Gap We're Closing
The Problem Parents Face
Here's what we noticed: In every exurban community, there are families desperate for reliable school transportation and small operators with empty seats. They just can't find each other.
The families moved out for space, schools, and lifestyle—then discovered they'd signed up to be full-time chauffeurs. The bus doesn't come. Rideshare costs a fortune. The parent carpool is unreliable. They need consistency, safety, and accountability—but the options that exist are either unavailable or unaffordable.
The Challenge Operators Face
Meanwhile, local operators—professional drivers with commercial vehicles—are running routes with two or three kids when they could carry eight. They can't afford the insurance. They don't have the technology to compete with bigger fleets. So they stay small, or they give up.
These are experienced professionals with clean safety records and commercial licenses, but the traditional insurance market prices them out. They lack the digital infrastructure to manage bookings, communicate with families, and scale their operations efficiently.
Shuttlebee Bridges That Gap
For Families
Access to premium, trackable, consistent transportation at a fraction of rideshare costs. Real-time updates, vetted drivers, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your child's ride is handled by professionals.
For Operators
The technology, insurance, and infrastructure to build real businesses. We provide the platform to manage routes efficiently, the insurance products that reflect actual safety records, and direct access to families who need your services.
What We Believe
Our core principles guide every decision we make—from technology development to partnership selection. These aren't just values on a wall; they're the foundation of how we operate.
Reliability Is the Product
Fancy vehicles are nice. What parents actually need is for the driver to show up—every day, on time, without drama. Consistency builds trust, and trust is what makes student transportation work.
We've built our systems around operational excellence: route optimization, backup driver protocols, real-time tracking, and proactive communication. When something goes wrong, families know immediately and we have solutions ready.
Small Operators Can Compete
With the right technology, insurance, and access to families, an independent operator can deliver better service than a giant fleet. We help them do it.
Small operators know their communities, build personal relationships with families, and take pride in their service. Our platform gives them the professional infrastructure they need to compete while maintaining the personal touch that makes them special.
Insurance Shouldn't Be the Barrier
Great drivers with clean records are getting priced out of student transportation. We're building a better model that uses telematics, behavioral data, and predictive analytics to price risk fairly.
By partnering with carriers who understand our market and leveraging technology to monitor and improve safety continuously, we're making insurance accessible for operators who've earned it through years of safe driving.
Leadership
Shuttlebee's founding team brings decades of combined experience in student transportation operations, insurance innovation, and technology infrastructure. We've built networks, managed complex logistics, and solved the hardest problems in this space—now we're bringing that expertise to operators and families nationwide.
Kristina Fahl
Co-Founder & CEO
Kristina started Shuttlebee after running an award-winning student transportation company—and watching good operators get priced out of the market by insurance costs that didn't reflect their actual safety records. She saw firsthand how broken the system was and decided to fix it.
Before launching Shuttlebee, she led operations at Bus.com, scaling a network of thousands of operators across North America and managing logistics for major institutional clients, including a $100M contract at one of the world's largest airports. She's built the vendor compliance, RFP, and operational systems that make transportation networks actually work at scale.
Kristina is a graduate of RevTech Labs Accelerator, the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program, and Scout InsurTech's Recognized Leader program. Shuttlebee was selected as one of sixteen NC IDEA Micro Grant recipients for Fall 2025 out of 285 applicants, and recently featured by GrepBeat—recognition of the company's potential to transform student transportation infrastructure.

Somil Jain, FCAS, MAAA, MBA
Co-Founder & Chief Insurance Officer
Somil brings 27 years in insurance to Shuttlebee, with deep expertise in building programs for underserved markets. He understands how to design coverage that balances carrier needs with market accessibility—and he knows how to make the numbers work for everyone.
He's been Chief Actuary at venture-backed insurtechs including Next and Steadily, where he built insurance products from scratch and brought them to market profitably. Before that, he developed telematics programs from the ground up at Plymouth Rock and Travelers, pioneering the use of behavioral data to price risk more accurately.
At Shuttlebee, Somil leads insurance strategy, underwriting infrastructure, and carrier partnerships—designing coverage that actually reflects driver safety and uses predictive data to price risk fairly. He's the reason small operators can finally get insurance that makes sense for their business model and safety record.

Our Advisory Board
We've assembled a team of advisors with proven track records in insurance innovation, transportation technology, and market development. They bring expertise across underwriting, claims, telematics, consumer markets, and education—the full spectrum of capabilities we need to transform student transportation.
Each advisor has built, scaled, or led organizations through major transformations. They're not just lending their names—they're actively involved in shaping Shuttlebee's strategy, opening doors to carrier partnerships, and helping us navigate the complex intersection of transportation, insurance, and technology.
Justin Whitaker, JD, CPCU
Chief Underwriting Officer (Advisor)
Justin has spent the last decade building underwriting, loss control, and claims operations focused on commercial auto. His playbook uses behavioral analysis and emerging technology to dramatically reduce risk—exactly the approach Shuttlebee needs to make our insurance model work.
He's seen what works and what doesn't in commercial transportation insurance, and he knows how to structure programs that protect carriers while making coverage accessible to quality operators. His combination of legal expertise (he's a licensed attorney), technical insurance knowledge (CPCU designation), and operational experience makes him invaluable in designing our underwriting approach.
Justin helps us think through loss prevention, claims handling, and the behavioral indicators that actually predict safety outcomes. He's building the framework that will allow us to offer better rates to better drivers while maintaining carrier profitability.
Tiana Showe, CPCU
InsurTech & Transportation Strategy
Tiana is Head of Commercial Strategy at TruckerCloud and brings 20 years of commercial property and casualty experience to Shuttlebee. She's an established leader and speaker in the insurtech and transportation space, with deep expertise in telematics, compliance, and carrier relationships.
Her network in the commercial transportation world is unmatched, and she understands the technology infrastructure that modern carriers expect. She's helped us think through our telematics strategy, compliance requirements, and how to position Shuttlebee within the broader insurtech ecosystem.
Tiana's guidance has been critical in shaping our carrier partnership strategy and ensuring we're building a program that meets the needs of both underwriters and operators. She's opened doors we couldn't have accessed otherwise and provided strategic insight at every stage of development.
Joe Emison, JD
Technology & Insurance
Joe is CTO of Branch Insurance and a serial founder with multiple successful exits. His previous companies include BuildFax (acquired by DMGT), Spaceful, BluePrince, and EphPod. He holds degrees from Williams College and a JD from Yale Law School—a rare combination of technical expertise and strategic thinking.
At Branch, Joe has built insurance technology infrastructure from the ground up, navigating regulatory requirements, scaling challenges, and the complex integrations required to work with traditional carriers. He understands both the insurance side and the technology side better than almost anyone in the industry.
Joe advises Shuttlebee on technology architecture, data strategy, and how to build systems that will scale with carrier partnerships. His experience launching and growing Branch provides a roadmap for how we should think about our own growth trajectory and technology investments.
Emi Kubota, MBA
Family & Consumer Markets
Emi is an investor, executive advisor, and two-time exited founder in the child and parent market. She brings the Pinnacle Business Guide playbook and a deep network of industry leaders who understand how to build businesses that serve families effectively.
Her expertise in consumer acquisition, product positioning, and building trust with parents is exactly what Shuttlebee needs as we scale our family-facing platform. She understands the psychology of parents making decisions about their children's safety and the marketing approaches that actually resonate in this space.
Emi holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and has spent her career building companies at the intersection of family needs and innovative service delivery. She's helping us think through go-to-market strategy, brand positioning, and how to build a consumer business that parents will trust and recommend.
Heather Murphy, BFA, MBA
Education & Program Development
Heather is Director of Auxiliary & Special Programs at SCH Academy, where she launched Horizons at SCH and the school's early childhood center. She understands how schools think about transportation, what programs they need to support, and how to build services that integrate seamlessly with educational operations.
Before moving into education leadership, she founded Baby Loves Disco and spent 15 years as a performing artist—creative experience that informs her approach to program development and family engagement. She knows how to design experiences that work for both institutions and the families they serve.
Heather advises Shuttlebee on school partnerships, program structure, and how to position our services to meet the needs of educational institutions. Her insight into school operations, parent communication, and program logistics helps us build a product that schools will actually want to adopt and families will love using.

Together, our leadership team and advisors bring the experience, relationships, and expertise needed to transform student transportation. We're building the future of how families and operators connect—and we have the right people to make it happen.
Transportation shouldn't be this hard.
Whether you're a family looking for a better option or an operator ready to grow, we'd love to hear from you.
